After many controversies in the early 80s bodybuilding seemed to be a sport in decline with no clear champion until 1984 when Lee Haney won Mr Olympia. He was the first bodybuilder to reach the finals of a bodybuilding contest, and the weight he took for the competition was just 1.7lb (1 kg). In 1991 he won the Junior Championship again, with a gain of 2kg over John David. That was the year he also became the first to win the Mr Universe title, having taken down Robert Schimmel and Jack Camm that year, in his home gym, as well as the Mr. Universe title in San Sebastian. At this moment he was considered the greatest bodybuilder of all time and was often referred to by the media as the greatest bodybuilder in the world, d bal before and after. In 1997 he won the Mr. Universe title and then won the Junior Championship for his age group, aged 12 – 12th Grade.
